Companies that give the toughest job interviews

August 16, 2011 – In my quest for employment, I’ve had some difficult interviews.

Those companies, however, didn’t rank as “the toughest companies to interview at”, according to a new study from Glassdoor.com, a Sausalito, Calif.-based Web site that ranked the most difficult companies by analyzing user comments about the interview practices of specific companies.

Here’s a list of the top 20 firms that put candidates through several rounds of interviews, difficult questions, brainteasers and case study analyses:

1. McKinsey & Co.
2. Jane Street Capital
3. Cree
4. Bain & Co.
5. Boston Consulting
6. Palantir Technologies
7. Teach for America
8. A.T. Kearney
9. Red Ventures
10. BP
11. ZS Associates
12. Procter & Gamble
13. Salesforce.com
14. Altria
15. Oliver Wyman
16. Bridgewater Associates
17. Stryker
18. Amazon.com
19. eBay
20. Gallup

How do you prepare for a difficult interview? Experts say to be comfortable discussing your skill-set and experience, and rehearse, rehearse, rehearse. Prepare for the typical and not-so-typical interview questions, and if you’re interviewing for a position in the technology field, such as computer programming, expect to be thrown a few brainteaser problems to solve.

Keep in mind, however, that a bombed interview might be a sign that the company wasn’t a good fit for YOU.
