December 9, 2011 – Here’s an interesting tidbit from our friends who write for Philadelphia’s Metro newspaper.
It doesn’t surprise me that shoplifting is on the rise in this economy, and it doesn’t even shock me that one in eleven shoppers swipe an item or two while visiting a retail store.
What bowls me over completely though is the amount of merchandise shoplifted each year – a whopping $119 billion worth of items, according to the online version of the paper. That’s billion with a capital B.
It’s also interesting to glance through the list of items that are most popular with shoplifters. One might say they have pretty good taste.
As my grandmother used to say, it’s a case of “Champagne taste and a beer budget.” Without the beer budget, that is.
